New Organs (premiere 2024)

Since Winter 2022, Klaas Devos/Reach and Collabs. and Milanese engineering labo. for data analysis and visualization LWT3 investigate how recent digital technologies impact the way we create and perceive dance. With New Organs, they explore the creative potential of human-machine interactions and biotechnological applications in dance and interdisciplinary performing arts. Currently, we are assembling the creative output from the research in the form of a unique biometric choreographic installation. This is an environment that turns the dancing body inside-out on the intersections of dance improvisation, clinical CGI, and sonification and visualization of biometric data using a tech-garment.

At the basis of the project are the tensions of four muscle groups as to stay close to the somatic experience in dance. From there, an artistic practice unfolds through which we learn about the technological conditioning of human embodiment and corporeality in performing arts and the implied ethics of bio-data mining and bio-data surveillance in performance.
